WHAT IS IT?

As a United States citizen, it is important for you to understand what terrorism is, and what it isn’t. For an act to be considered terrorism, it must be a crime.

Michigan passed an extensive legislative package following 9/11 in April 2002, defining terrorism and assessing penalties for violations. Michigan’s legislative action matched that of many states and the federal government.

REMEMBER…..

It is NOT a crime to:

  • Say something radical or inflammatory against our country.
  • Have a strong set of beliefs that are outside mainstream ideology. Americans are guaranteed the right of free speech.

Crimes include:

  • Homicides
  • Threats
  • Harassment
  • Vandalism
  • Arson
  • Etc.

Next we will examine the definition of terrorism utilized by the FBI and our country’s definition of Homeland Security.
