The Community Analysis Worksheet
In its Report on Community Crime Prevention, the National Advisory
Commission on Criminal Justice Standards and Goals referred to ". . . a
complex, and admittedly little understood amalgam of social conditions
that cements, or at least predisposes, many individuals to criminal activity."
Behavioral scientists have long indicated relationships between certain
social conditions and attendant social problems such as higher rates of
crime and delinquency, especially in the area of high fear crime.
The line police officer must know his beat to be effective. The police administrator must know his entire community in order to define the role and formulate policy for each police officer within it. This worksheet is designed for the examination of the general demographic, socioeconomic, and institutional characteristics relating to a specific community, area, or state. Furthermore, it is designed to aid in the examination of some of those so-called crime-related social conditions. Such an analysis is intended to provide extraordinary information and perspective to the police administrator in an effort to enhance his decision-making ability as he deals with the complex scope of his responsibilities.
